Update on pre-season from Director of Rugby Jack Heald as the real action fast approaches

Michael Whitfield

Our men and women have been training for 6 weeks already on the sunbaked pitches at Barn Elms..this is what is going on.

After a nice break for the men’s section over May and June we’re now into pre season week 6 hitting this week & heading into an inter club game this Fri 14th.

We’ve seen a new coaching group including the return of ex-captain Josh Davies return to the club as their attack coach teaming up with Simon Linsell, Ross Kane, Alex Wood & Matt Cornish supported with 2nd XV Coaches Tommy Burkett & Len Ascroft-Leigh.

As you would expect with any pre season. The trainings been as arduous as ever, with the conditioning being as tough as ever. Pre seasons also included a great weekend in Bath on pre-season, which saw 40+ players spend valuable time training together both on and off field activities to the forefront of the squad’s preparations for the new season.

Looking across the league it looks again to be an unforgiving league, the early favourites have to be Oundle whose recruitment has been heathy to say the least for a Nat 2 Side.

Our local neighbours Esher look to be an improved side along with Dorking who’s will as ever prove an exciting game, playing them game 3 of the season a Barn Elms.

For now we looking forward to the reminder of pre season, next Sat 22nd we play Richmond at Chiswick KO 12:00 v Saxons, 14:00 v Vikings.

All the best Jack
