Last weekend of the season sees double header away at Oxford Harlequins

Michael Whitfield22 Apr - 18:56

The end of the 24-25 season is imminent for the adults this time out with the Men's 1s and 2's in Oxford and our Women's 2nd XV at Staines

Amazing testament to the players and coaches of the Under 22's who won the Surrey Cup on Monday
- Michael "Rhino" Whitfield

We finish the season as we started it, against Oxford Harlequins. In their first season in National 2 League East they have survived in one of the toughest leagues their is, currently in 12th place, with 7 wins, and we hope no more please! They are tough and nuggety and have thoroughly deserved to be in this league. When we played them in the opening game, winning 47-22 but for much of the game at Barn Elms they matched us. We will need to be on our mettle to avoid a 4th defeat in 5 games as our season has descended into some disappointment for the lads with defeats against Westcombe Park, OAs and Henley in recent weeks. We have been ravaged by so many injuries and we are incredibly proud of the whole first team squad of over 50 lads that have played for our 1st XV and 2nd XV this season. Barnes's success in the league is in great part due to a strong 2nd XV who make up the 1st XV squad, it is a testament to the club and squad ethos, and our coaches that we can keep bringing up 2nd XV players who acquit themselves so well when called upon to step up to the 1st XV challenge. Go well on Saturday lads, do yourselves and the us proud.

Whilst currently in 3rd place in the league, 2nd placed Dorking play league champions TJ's at Dorking, we need TJs to show up to do us a favour on Saturday, which would result in us finishing 2nd for the 3rd time in 3 seasons, an incredible achievement by a completely changed squad this season.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Barnes Under 22’s became 2025 Champions, winning the major Surrey Cup competition. There were three 30 minutes matches against Reeds, Cobham and Wimbledon.

It was a superb performance from all the squad with some brilliant running rugby.
It was a fabulous afternoon of flowing 15 man rugby. The future is very bright. The future is GREEN & GOLD!!! ? A massive thank you to all of the players coaches and supporters, rumour has it that they are still celebrating in a Wetherspoons somewhere!

This weekend also sees the Men's 2nd XV join their 1st XV at Oxford Harlequins, the band of brothers together for one last time this season, whilst on Sunday our Women's 2nd XV take the pitch for the last time away at Staines.

I would like to wish all of the players a brilliant last weekend of rugby in the 2024-2025 season, a massive thank you to all the players and coaches for all for your contributions to Barnow's continuing success.

May you all play in the original spirit we embrace at Barnes, and never forget that Barnes Rugby is:

For Rugby! For Friendship! For Life!
