A battalion of 220 Minis players and parents, from Under 7's to Under 10's invaded Somerset last weekend, Minis Captain Boris Pomroy tells us more.

Brilliant Barnes Minis back on tour, what an astonishing weekend!

On 22nd April, 220 intrepid U7-U10 tourists left the clubhouse in search of sunshine, rugby and adventure. And what an adventure they had. Our base, Holiday Resort Unity Brean Sands, was awash with the green and gold as our young players quickly made it home. Parents too were well catered for, including an exclusive performance from 1980’s global superstars Bucks Fizz.

Saturday morning took us to Clifton RFC, whose Minis put on a gallant performance across all their age-groups, before ultimately succumbing to our players skill and arguably illegal levels of sugar coursing through their veins. The two squads then joined together to welcome the Clifton 1st team onto the pitch ahead of their game against Dings (which was a cracker, with Clifton going down 31-32), before heading back to Brean for the now legendary beach party. The rest of Saturday evening will not be documented, being redacted under the timeless law of ‘what goes on tour, stays on tour’. Suffice to say, much fun was had by all.

Sunday saw the business-end of the tour, as all age groups took part in the Cheddar Festival. Despite two-days of only limited-parenting and two-nights of even more limited sleep, our incredible players delivered the quality rugby we’ve come to expect from them, dominating across all age categories. And all with a smile on their faces. I lost count of the number of people coming up to me and complimenting our players both on their performance and their attitude. A weekend to feel very proud.

A huge thanks to Paul Crosbie, his amazing team of organisers, all our brilliant coaches and incredible parents for pulling this together. Two-nights. A tonne of sugar. A million memories made.
