Thiis weekend we have potentially 6 adult teams on the pitch.
The weekend kicks off on Friday with the Outriders making the short trek to Rosslyn Park, whilst the Vets play at Chiswick against their Vets.
On Saturday three men's men's sides don the green and gold shirt for Barnes, all at Barn Elms. The 1st XV take on Leicester Lions, the 2s play Dorking whilst the Occies play Staines.
On Sunday the Women’s 1st XV join the action, travelling to Fullerians.
Focus on Barnes v Leicester Lions
We haven’t played Leicester Lions for a few seasons now as they were moved to Nat 2 West after one season in Nat 2 East in the 2022/2023 season. In the previous season we lost at home 10-28 and 36-12 at their play.
It is fair to say that they are not our favourite club to play, and there is some history too as our beloved Director of Rugby, Jack Heald, didn’t have a happy time there as their Head Coach before he came to Barnes.
But now is now, and then was then!
This season the Lions find themselves back in Nat 2 East, and they have not found it as easy as the last time they were here, there is no doubt that our league is the toughest of the Nat 2 leagues, every team looks capable of beating the others, with the exception of the Galactico's of Oundle who seem destined to win the league outright, even after only 6 games of the current season.
Leicester have won 2 games so far to our 3, they are in 11th in the league, whilst we are just above them in 9th, without stating the bleeding obvious, this is an important game for us on many levels.
We are after 3 wins in a row as we kick off the next block of games, having won in a gutsy performance against Canterbury last week in a squeaky bum cliffhanger 34-32 at Barn Elms, whilst the Lions got well and truly mauled by the visitors from Guernsey, going down 19-40.
As with all the games so far this season, it will not be easy at all. The rest weekend last week came at a good time for our squad, we had lots of injuries and bumps and bruises to recover from, and I know the lads will be well up for this one and raring to go!
Onwards and Upwards Barnow!
Bring home the win!
