It is well known that the Barnes Rugby community is as generous off the pitch as it is effective on it, in May we started raising money for the Charlie Waller Trust, a charity that focusses on the mental health of young people.
Our initial thought was to raise money in the memory of George Buchner, one our beloved Occies players, who took his own life last September. George's legacy at Barnes will be an ongoing programme of mental health advice and coaching to the young people and coaches of Barnes RFC, a fitting tribute.
A full programme of activities aimed at supporting our young people, and their mental health, will kick off in September, with a "coach the coaches session, so our experienced youth and adult coaches will have a tool kit of advice to help them keep a watchful eye on our young people.
We are totally committed to this approach and look forward to working with the Charlie Waller Trust for many years to come.
