Barnes seemed to make a few more errors than Redruth or perhaps the more important ones

Most of the first half was played in the visitor's territory; Barnes attacked strongly from the start and scored the first try. Two Barnes' errors soon led to Redruth's first try before 15 minutes. Both were converted. Two Barnes' attacks were halted, one by a stolen line-out and the other by good defence. Not long before halftime a Redruth error while attacking helped Barnes to clear. Barnes scored with the first attack of the second half out wide but did not convert the try. Despite later being a man down Redruth scored from an excellent lateral kick close to the opposition line and did convert.

Barnes kicked off and got the ball back from a Redruth up-and-under then put together a very good attack with 18 close phases before being turned over 3 metres out. The visitors cleared to 26 metres out. Later they were penalised at the base of a Barnes' scrum 24 metres out and the kick took the home team to 5 metres out. From the line-out no. 8 Crossland was soon over half way out before 7 minutes. Fly-half Hammett converted.

Following the restart and an up-and-under Redruth put together a very good sequence of 26 mixed phases to nearly get to halfway before the defence forced an error to get another scrum. From it they started a three-quarter attack but straight away a poor pass was dropped and the opposition got the ball and kicked it to touch 13 metres from Barnes' line. The line-out was thrown long and Redruth got the ball and 3 recycles put scrumhalf Oulton over wide out after 14 minutes. A very good conversion from fullback Simmonds followed.

Barnes won a turnover soon after the restart; after 4 close phases the visitors forced an error to get a scrum 19 metres from their line. From that they cleared to touch 13 metres from halfway then after the line-out Barnes used 10 mixed phases to get a penalty 26 metres out and kicked for another line-out 8 metres out. Redruth stole that and tried to break out; an opposition knock-on gave them a 5 metre scrum. After that they tried an up-and-under that was charged down but they regained. They tried another up-and-under and got the ball back again and attacked wide before passing the ball forward into touch just outside their 22. From the scrum Barnes kept the ball for 9 phases without advance before the visitors forced an error to get a scrum 28 metres out. Following that they advanced putting together 6 mostly close phases before they got another scrum 9 metres from halfway. Going wide from that they were turned over then penalised 8 metres inside their half. The kick took Barnes to 14 metres out; their pack tried for a drive that was loose. Then a break-off and 5 recycles got them to 5 metres out where the defence forced an error and got the ball.

Redruth made ground with 2 advances within 4 phases and cleared well to touch not far from halfway. After the line-out and 4 mostly wide recycles the visitors won a turnover before soon after being turned over themselves. Barnes kicked to the line; this resulted in a high 22 drop-out that was followed by a penalty against the home team 6 metres inside their opponents' half. The kick gained 22 metres and from the line-out Redruth went wide and kicked towards touch. Into touch off a Barnes player they got another line-out 14 metres out. A knock-on in that gave the defence a scrum from which they cleared well to touch 5 metres past halfway. An error just after the line-out gave Barnes a scrum from which Barnes attacked wide before chipping through to touch for the halftime whistle.

After their second half restart and an up-and-under Redruth had the ball for 3 phases before their scrum near halfway. From it they went wide and lost the ball; Barnes got it and were soon 5 metres out. They recycled and got over the line but were held up. From the 5 metre scrum, which had to be reset 5 times, Barnes recycled close 5 times then released to centre; the next recycle went wider and with the fullback in the line as a threat an overlap was created and centre Cornish to the line wide out at 8 minutes. The conversion missed.

Redruth regained straight from their restart and put together a very good attack. First an advance into the 22 then with 11 mixed phases they went much further, almost to the line. After another recycle they passed forward 7 metres out. After their scrum Barnes soon cleared to touch 18 metres out. From the line-out Redruth kept the ball in with some advance then released. A penalty was signalled; it turned out to be a red card for the visitors; this happened after 14 minutes

Barnes kicked for a line-out 14 metres from halfway then soon after their line-out they kicked ahead. Redruth ran the ball back wide then recycled 3 times before kicking through to touch. Barnes took a quick line-out and recycled twice before clearing to touch 25 metres from their line. They stole the line-out, recovered from an error then used an up-and-under that resulted in another line-out for them 2 metres ahead. They kept the ball without advance then an error gave the opposition a scrum at the same place. From that Redruth released to centre and made ground then used 8 mixed phases to get a penalty 23 metres out that they kicked for a line-out 10 metres out. Their pack started a drive that Barnes defended loosely then the ball was released to Oulton who sent a perfect lateral kick to the far side of the pitch for wing Notman to catch and score easily wide out at 21 minutes. Simmonds added for the lead.

Barnes regained their restart and kept the ball for 6 mixed phases before being held up; at their scrum 14 metres inside their half Redruth got a free-kick. Three kicks followed before a Barnes' line-out 30 metres from their line; they had the ball for a few close phases before there were two turnovers. Barnes used wider ball for 2 phases to get a penalty at their opponents' 10 metre line. Their kick took them to just inside the 22 where the line-out was thrown not-straight. Redruth went wide from the scrum then kicked for territory; this resulted in their penalty at halfway after a Barnes' error. The kick took them to 25 metres from the opposition line. From the line-out the kept the ball close for 5 phases then a slightly forward pass, missed by the officials, enabled a break then another recycle preceded an error that gave the defence a scrum 8 metres out. After releasing from that Barnes used an up-and-under that the visitors secured at the 22. They kept the ball for 8 close phases before being held up at the same distance. From their scrum Barnes went wide and caught the opposition offside 2 metres ahead. Their kick didn't find touch and Redruth ran back and kicked into the 22. Barnes ran out wide to past halfway where the ball was dropped; the visitors kept the ball close for 5 phases before their scrum 27 metres from their line. That resulted in their penalty which they ran then kicked out after recycling twice, knowing time was up.

Dry, cool and dull with 100% grey cloud; the pitch good.
