It's been an interesting start to say the least! We've had 4 fixtures so far, a 46-35 win over Hammersmith & Fulham's 5ths, a 31 all against Ealing Vets in a friendly, (a consistent walkover with our long distance friends at Camberley), two weeks ago a proper away league encounter with a well fought win against a resilient Cobham side, 39-19, and yesterday more of run out playing 13 aside against a very young Hackney Vets/Colts who pushed us to 46-28 in a friendly!
So, no losses so far, but more of a spluttering as we try and find some rhythm than sublime running rugby.
As ever lots of new faces pull on the Harrodian Vets jersey, some of them struggling to get into our super thin body hugging kit, all which is due to be replenished in due course.
We have had a pretty mixed side in all our fixtures lacking players through injury, including Slats, Beanie and my good self, as well as long term retirements from none other than Jose, although I suspect he will do an Angus Graham and return in a year’s time!
Overall the boys have done good so far and we have tried to create a playing style making effective use of our fitness and speed, but we need to shake off the last of summer cobwebs and raise our thinking on and off the pitch.
We have a long season ahead of us and I promise you the match reports will in time become equally as long for those avid followers amongst you, although perhaps I should close out by congratulating the 1s an immensely important 33-28 win over Exmouth yesterday, cracking effort!
Next week we are away to Esher in what should be tough fixture and a proper welcome to the Season.
Have a great week
