Match Preview

This is the first Griffen Cup match that Barnes Ladies will be participating in following some issues with fixtures and team availability at the beginning of the tournament.

Unfortunately we were beaten by Sutton and Epsom previously in the Junior Cup match at Barnes, where we put up an incredible fight to make sure we didn't leave the pitch without points on the board.

This was a tough game and we spent the first 20 minutes of the match with them literally a few meters off our try line without letting them pass due to our strong and determined defence. However, we did spend the last five minutes of the game just off their try line until Eleonore barged her way of the try line. Coincidentally, this was also the first game that Eleonore used her face in defence, earning herself that nasty blue eye!

Our numbers are down this week due to holiday and Surrey trials, but we can and should put in a big performance - it'll be good prep for the Junior Cup match we'll be playing on the 7th February against Hackney who will likely come back to us firing on all cylinders off the back of last week's defeat.

The ground is a fair distance from the station, so I would advise checking the Barnes Ladies Facebook page to see about getting a lift with Andy or Christy from the station to the pitch. Warm up is at 1pm and kick off for our first game will be at 2.30pm.
