Occies win to stay top of the League
Their win based on ‘Beef’, Kings seemed have better teamwork, coming back from 0 – 17 down to lead with the penultimate penalty kick.
The Occies started with the wind and after 13 minutes they went ahead with a try out wide, unconverted. They scored again 4 minutes later at the posts with a counter-attack and good passing. Within another 4 minutes they had kicked back the restart long to touch then stolen the line-out and gone over wide out to make the score 0 - 17. Less than 2 minutes after that an Occies' error and kick over and regain enabled Kings to get their first points not far from the posts. Another error by the visitors got Kings going again to their penalty at which they chose a scrum and from that their backs ran the ball to the posts at 28 minutes to reduce the deficit to 3 points. A penalty and a Kings' error led to the Occies' 4th try wide out after 32 minutes. Kings missed with a penalty kick after restart and later the half ended with them attacking and the score 22 - 14.
A couple of minutes into the second half the Occies' scrumhalf ran from the opposition 22 to the line wide out. The Occies secured the restart then an error soon after gave Kings an attacking scrum 15 metres out. Under pressure they were penalised at that. The Occies were then turned over and Kings went wide to get a penalty at the 22. They ran that to get over quite easily after 6 minutes then their conversion missed. Kings soon kicked back the restart; the Occies ran the ball and broke through to get a penalty 5 metres out. Their no.8 ran to go over not far from the posts after 10 minutes. The conversion missed. The visitors ran back the restart strongly then were intercepted. The receiver ran to the posts at 13 minutes. The conversion was good. Errors by the Occies then chat and receiving a yellow card sent them back to defend a line-out at their 22. Following a Kings' error and scrum for each side the home team got another penalty and chose to have a scrum from which they scored wide-out at the start of the final quarter and their deficit now 1 point.
The restart was followed by a scrum for the visitors then three penalties for them, the third at halfway having been forced backwards. They ran that to get a scrum put -in 10 metres ahead and got a free-kick at that which they also ran. A good passing sequence got them another penalty 5 metres out; they ran again but were held up over the line. The defence continued to hold during another two attempts by the Occies then Kings got a scrum and kicked for territory. They were awarded a penalty where the ball landed and kicked for a line-out at the opposition 22. Another penalty followed that and Kings kicked to the posts for the lead at 33 minutes. Kings ran back from the restart with two good breaks until penalised 14 metres past halfway. The Occies ran their penalty to get a scrum 6 metres into the other half. Soon after they got another penalty that they ran to get another 13 metres out near the posts and a change of kicker got them the points for the win before the final whistle.
Overcast and cool, the wind much stronger than at Barnes earlier; the pitch good.
