Luke Williams and Tom Wagstaff will be missed in 2015/16, but we wish them luck.

I can normally do 100 press ups!

While many of us have rightfully been enjoying the summer and reflecting on an excellent season. Others are already looking forward the huge and exciting challenge that 2015/16 season will present. Sadly, I have to mention a few Barnes stalwarts who will not be at Barnes next season.

Luke Williams
The Brothers Rugby Club in Brisbane has been a wonderful partner to Barnes RFC over the years. In truth, they have provided us with many players and we have done little in return!! Jules McLaughlin, Tim McKeller, Andrew Coady, many others and now Luke Williams have all been proud Brothers players who have been a credit to themselves and their club. Luke had an outstanding season this year, his “pre-season training in Ibiza” seemed to have paid off with an outstanding performance against Dunvant and since then he never looked back.

Despite Physio’s regularly telling Jamie is wasn’t fit and had a season ending injury, Luke would respond, “I’ll be sweet mate”, and put in shift after shift for the 1st team.

Luke you will be missed, we wish you the very best of luck and thanks for 2 wonderful seasons at Barnes.

Tom Wagstaff
AKA “Waggers” or the “Widow Maker”. Rumour is, Waggers is traveling to a monastery in the Himalayas to train until he can do 100 press ups in front of Judge Joel Burgess. However, the official story is that he is travelling with his girlfriend for a year. We will be hoping he returns for the 2016-17 season and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say, we will be delighted when he does.

Waggers talks more than Timmy Williams, but would still rank as a man of action not words. I cannot write this farewell to Waggers without mentioning his tackling! The man is simply fearless and while some are interested in goals, tries and yards – Waggers wants to tackle and not just tackle – tackle hard. Arms are an optional luxury, but the impact isn’t. It would be churlish to suggest Waggers is one dimensional, he is a genuine team man, who has been an inspiration to many in the 2s this year and is a rugby player’s player. It was fitting that despite a swollen ankle, he scored a great try against Ampthill in the last game of the season.

Waggers you too will be missed.
