Barnes gave everything throughout; a decent performance in the first half before being overrun in the second by a very powerful team much stronger than the autumn one.

Elthamians soon got into the other half after securing the kick-off; Barnes got a free-kick at the first scrum which got them back into the opposition half where the defence forced an error. Old E's went wide from their second scrum to get a penalty that was kicked for a line-out 8 metres from the visitors’ line. Barnes held the drive then a delayed long pass over sent fullback White to the line after 5 minutes. He added. An error at the restart gave the home team the third put-in on halfway. After some kicks Elthamians stole the second line-out released to centre then recycled 4 times, the last to Bennett who then fended off one defender then beat another to go over out wide at 10 minutes. This conversion was wide. Old E's knocked on the high restart; the visitors got another free-kick at the scrum and ran it until the defence forced an error 17 metres out. The ball was cleared to touch and from the line-out the visitors were forced backwards before being turned over. Elthamians kicked through and Barnes had to clear to touch from near their own line to 15 metres out. From the line-out Old E's advanced tight to get a penalty close to the line and get a man advantage for 10 minutes. They chose a scrum and the Ref. soon gave them a penalty try after 18 minutes. White added, of course.

From the restart Elthamians were soon in the other half before a Barnes' scrum at which they dominated and got the ball then advanced to 11 metres out where the defence forced an error. The visitors cleared to touch then the opposition threw the line-out not-straight. Barnes opted for another line-out and tried for a forward drive and when this went down launched an up-and-under. This got them a line-out 27 metres from Old E's line. A drive got them a penalty inside the 22 that was kicked for another line-out, now 9 metres out. The next drive got them another penalty 2 metres closer then a 5 metre line-out from which after another drive went down lock Collins got over wide out at 28 minutes. The conversion was wide.

Two kicks followed the restart, the second to touch inside the visitors' 22. Barnes kicked ahead after their line-out; Elthamians ran the ball and recycled several times to get a penalty just inside the opposition half. Their kick took them to their line-out 17 metres out from which they drove to the line with flanker Lindfield on the ball wide-out after 32 minutes. White's conversion was good. Two kicks followed the restart, the second to touch 16 metres from Old E's line. The home team cleared to touch, still in their own half. Barnes advanced a few metres to an opposition scrum; Elthamians scrumhalf was caught at the base resulting in a scrum for the visitors. They sent ball wide then recycled 7 times before the defence was penalised at the 22. They ran the penalty and recycled 3 times to get another penalty 15 metres out and a man advantage for 10 minutes. Again they ran and after one recycle blind centre Jones got over near the corner. The conversion missed before the halftime whistle.

The visitors secured the second restart and kicked back. Old E's ran and recycled well with 5 phases to get the put-in 29 metres from their opponents' line. From the scrum they quickly got to the line with 4 more recycles; they were held up but the Ref. went back to a penalty just inside the 22. White's kick for the points was wide then after the 22 drop-out Elthamians ran the ball back before they kicked and the visitors cleared to touch 27 metres out. From the line-out Elthamians drove to the 22 then recycled to wing Bennett coming in at centre and he offloaded then one recycle sent wing Williams to the corner after 6 minutes. A very good conversion from White followed. Old E's secured the high restart then chipped through then soon forced an error to get a scrum at halfway. At the back of this, after Henry hassled his opposite number, flanker Robertson got the ball and made good yards but the defence got the next put-in just inside their 22. The visitors were penalised at this scrum and the kick took Elthamians to a line-out in the other half. From this they chipped through to touch at the 22. From their line-out Barnes launched an up-and-under to touch. The opposition took a quick line-out and ran wide to the other side and got a penalty 10 metres out. They kicked for a line-out 6 metres out but an error gave the defence a put-in. A kick after the scrum was half charged down and Elthamians got the ball and after they kept ball tight prop Porter was soon over, after 14 minutes. White added again. Old E's immediately broke through after the restart and into the opposition 22; the defence won a turnover then got a scrum put-in 12 metres out. After it Elthamians forced a turnover and sent ball wide and advanced strongly before being forced into touch 5 metres out. Barnes launched a high kick to touch from their line-out. The opposition took a quick throw-in and got the ball to Bennett in the centre again who broke through then on to the posts at 59 minutes. Two more points for White.

After the restart Barnes got the put-in after holding up at a maul deep in the opposition half but great pressure at the scrum got the ball back to the home pack. Elthamians attacked blind before being forced into touch. After the line-out Barnes got the next put-in infield without advancing. They got the ball away and got a penalty after 2 recycles; this was kicked for a line-out 13 metres out but were then penalised in the line-out. Old E's kicked for their line-out just past halfway and from that broke through at centre to the 22 where the defence got the next scrum. Soon after it they were turned over and after 3 recycles centre Hamilton sent Bennett .over at the corner for his third at 68 minutes. The conversion was wide. Elthamians kicked back the restart high; the ball wasn't caught and the bounce evaded Barnes; no. 8 Sheppard touched down and White added. Old E's cleared the restart to touch then stole the line-out; they kept the ball close to get a penalty inside the opposition half. They kicked for a line-out then had theirs stolen. Barnes' three-quarters ran the ball then after a couple of recycles the ball went loose. It was quickly recycled by the opposition before prop Boxall trotted unopposed some 20 metres to the line at 33 minutes. More for White. An error after the restart gave the visitors a scrum not far into their opponents' half. After releasing to centre and a couple of recycles but without advancing they got a penalty that was kicked to touch just outside the 22. The line-out was stolen and Elthamians soon kicked then forced an error to get put-in still in their own half. After that they advanced some metres before passing forward then were penalised at the scrum. Barnes ran this wide and were forced into touch. Old E's advanced 10 metres from their line-out then were penalised for not releasing. The visitors kicked for another attacking line-out 25 metres out. They were forced backwards after that to get the put-in at the last scrum, which they were pushed off. They soon forced an error and got the ball with advantage being played. They recycled twice to get the last penalty and ran this then chipped to the last stoppage.

Bright, dry, sunny and warm with some varying wind on a perfect firm pitch with short grass.
