A full team performance

The wind had a big effect upon the game as can be seen from the first half score when Barnes had the advantage of it. In the second half the score was 7 - 12.

Barnes first try came after 9 minutes then there were two more at 14 minutes and after 17 minutes. From 25 minutes to 33 minutes there were 4 more.

The visitors dealt with the second half kick-off and soon regained an up-and-under and started attacking. Four phases got them to the 22 then after 2 more recycles the defence forced an error to get a scrum put-in 27 metres from their line. Sidcup went wide, recycled wide then kicked out on the full giving Barnes a line-out 30 metres out. From that they tried to start a drive and Sidcup offered no resistance and were awarded a penalty for crossing. They kicked for a line-out 9 metres past halfway but had that stolen. Barnes used an up-and-under that the opposition fielded then kicked long. Barnes returned with a kick then were penalised for offside back where the ball was kicked, 9 metres from the visitors' line. Sidcup chose a scrum, broke blind, then kicked to the line. Barnes touched down for a 22 drop-out. That was long and Sidcup kicked out on the full again, 5 metres into the opposition half. Barnes released from the line-out and advanced recycling once blind before being penalised 18 metres ahead. The home team ran their penalty with 3 phases before passing into touch where the last line-out had been. From the line-out after advancing with 3 phases they were turned over; Sidcup kicked for territory. The visitors ran the ball back with 4 phases to get a penalty at the opposition 10 metre line. The kick took them to 27 metres out and from this line-out they scored the first try of the half. After releasing to centre they put together 11 mixed phases, with the last a well-timed pass from the fullback that sent no. 8 Hind out wide running 40 metres along the touch line to come in to the posts at 12 minutes.

Barnes secured the restart then soon used an up-and-under; Sidcup kicked long then got a penalty for not releasing 18 metres into the opposition half. The kick took them to 6 metres out. With 6 mostly close phases replacement White got over before 16 minutes neat the posts. Fly-half Evans added.

They secured the long restart and kept the ball for 8 phases before kicking, but too far - dead! This gave the visitors a scrum 7 metres past halfway at which they were penalised. Sidcup kicked for a line-out 13 metres from their opponents' line and that was stolen. Barnes cleared to touch 29 metres out; an error at the next line-out gave them a scrum put-in. From that they quickly advanced to score. After a back row pick-up and two recycles ground was made in midfield then three more recycles with a recovered error in between put the ball into the hands of the fullback then a quick interchange with the right wing sent the former over before 23 minutes, halfway between the posts and the corner. The conversion was unsuccessful.

An error resulting from the high restart gave the visitors a scrum 11 metres inside their half. From that they went widest and a pass went into touch 5 metres ahead. From the line-out Sidcup attacked well, breaking through after recycling twice then sending the ball through hands. Recycling again at the 22 they went wide before being forced into touch 9 metres out. Soon after the line-out Barnes were turned over and Sidcup went wide but were intercepted. The visitors' inside centre made ground then after two recycles they were penalised for not releasing just inside their 22. The home team kicked for a line-out 9 metres out; the wind sent the throw into opposition hands. After 3 phases play was stopped for an injury then restarted with a visitors' scrum 21 metres out. This time the ball was kept in and they pushed the opposition pack back before breaking blind. After 2 recycles the Ref. went back to a penalty 30 metres out that Barnes kicked to touch at halfway. From this line-out they went wide with the fullback in the line; after 4 phases Sidcup forced an error, got the ball and kicked long; the visitors cleared to touch 18 metres from halfway and stole another line-out. They used an up-and-under that Sidcup dealt with then recycled 4 times before getting a penalty 28 metres out; they kicked for another line-out less than 6 metres out. From that they kept the ball in but were soon turned over and Barnes soon cleared to touch just inside their 22. From their line-out Sidcup kept the ball for 4 phases without advancing to get a penalty that they ran. Another penalty for not retreating was given 13 metres out; Sidcup chose to have a scrum at which they were under pressure and an error gave their opponents one 20 metres out. Barnes cleared to touch and Sidcup took a quick line-out and soon kicked for territory. Barnes ran the ball back then after 3 recycles they were turned over; Sidcup had the ball for 4 phases before kicking again. The visitors chipped over then forced a turnover, they went wide and recycled twice to get a penalty at their 10 metre line. They ran that before being penalised at the other 10 metre line. Sidcup kicked for a line-out 25 metres ahead. From their line-out they kept the ball for 7 phases before the visitors forced an error at the whistle.

A grey sky 100% overcast; varying wind, sometimes strong; drizzle through most of the game; the pitch softish; floodlights used.
