One of Bury’s tries resulted from the unpredictable bounce of the ball.

Similarly to the away game at Bury, their last score came towards the end of a 49 minutes elapsed second half. That removed the possibility of a losing bonus point.

Barnes kicked the ball back after the kick-off; Bury ran the ball and were forced into touch 9 metres into the opposition half. From the line-out Barnes released to centre then recycled once before kicking into the visitors' 22. Bury cleared to touch 10 metres inside their half. Barnes again went wide from the line-out and a stretched-for pass was dropped at centre. From the first scrum Bury put together a very good set of varied phases. After 6 they broke through to the 22 then after 10 more mostly close they got an easily kickable penalty near centre field at 6 minutes and fly-half Hughes kicked the points.

The visitors cleared the restart long to touch; Barnes took a quick line-out and ran the ball. After they recycled 4 times kicks were exchanged then Barnes kept the ball for a couple of phases before trying an up-and-under. Bury dealt with that and ran the ball wide to get their second penalty 18 minutes into their opponents' half near centre field at 10 minutes and Hughes took the points. This second penalty was conceded after little effort by the visitors.

Bury launched an up-and-under after receiving the restart and were caught offside at the catch; Barnes kicked for a line-out 16 metres out. Bury prevented a drive and Barnes went wide and were soon penalised in possession at the 22. A good kick took the visitors to their line-out 6 metres into the other half. From the line-out Bury put together a good series of 9 varied phases to get to 16 metres from Barnes' line where an opposition knock-on gave them the second scrum put-in. Barnes nearly got the ball at the back of the scrum but it was knocked it on. From the next scrum Bury broke blind then recycled twice before setting up a driving maul. When this was held they recycled close then wide then 4 times tight near the line before sending the ball wider and on to wing Wiltshire to cross unopposed wide-out then come in to make the conversion easier at the end of the first quarter. Hughes added.

An error at the restart gave the visitors another scrum back at halfway. From it they kicked ahead and Barnes’ fullback returned it. Bury ran the ball wide then recycled close to a forward. The ball was dropped or dislodged and Barnes' wing Carlisle ran off to the opposition try line 3 minutes after the previous try. Fullback O'Toole added.

The visitors regained their high restart then Barnes seemed to have won a turnover but were penalised for the second time for that. This was 2 minutes after the previous score and 14 metres inside Barnes' half, 5 metres from touch; Hughes' kick just got over.

Bury replied to the restart with an up-and-under; Barnes dealt with that and put together their first good set of phases. There were 11 but without much advance; next the visitors got the ball back by counter-rucking. Their kick to the line resulted in a 22 drop-out. Bury ran the ball back with 6 mostly close phases to get a penalty 26 metres out near centre field after the half hour and Hughes kicked his 5th for a 12 point lead.

Bury replied to the restart with an up-and-under; Barnes dealt with that and ran the ball before being forced into touch 1 metres inside their half. After the line-out Bury went wide then recycled close once before Barnes achieved their first un-penalised turnover. They went wide then launched an up-and-under from the next ruck. One of their players jumped to knock the ball backwards for his team to regain. They recycled twice close then went wide and then recycled the ball to Carlisle who ran down touch before coming in to the posts for his 2nd at 35 minutes. The fullback added.

The restart didn't go 10 metres; from the scrum Barnes went blind before being turned over. Bury soon kicked to the 22 and Barnes cleared to touch at their 10 metre line. The line-out was stolen and Barnes made ground with the ball before recycling wide. They advanced further into the opposition 22 and recycled close once. After another recycle the fly-half put prop Milford-Scott though a hole and he sent no.8 Crossland to the line. The fullback added for the lead before the halftime whistle.

The visitors secured the second half restart and immediately ran wide then recycled twice before trying an up-and-under. A bit of magic from Barnes' fullback followed; he weaved through the defence then two passes sent the ball to Carlisle who shrugged off a tackle before going to the posts for his 3rd hardly a minute after the restart. O'Toole added for a 9 point lead.

Barnes responded to the restart with an up-and-under; after Bury dealt with that they were turned over. Barnes went wide to get a penalty against a tackler and kicked for a line-out just outside their opponents' 22. That was stolen and Bury put together a sequence of 10 good mostly close phases before kicking ahead towards touch. Barnes had to clear to touch 24 metres out. The visitors first kept the ball close from the line-out then chipped through the defence to the line near the posts. Both teams had players close to the ball behind the line; the bounce favoured Bury's centre Rock who touched down for their 2nd try at 7 minutes. Hughes added.

Barnes won a turnover after the visitors secured the restart at their 22. The home team then put together a very good sequence of 15 phases before the defence forced an error to get a put-in 17 metres from their line. Bury kicked to touch 8 metres into the other half; the opposition threw their line-out not-straight. From the scrum the visitors went wide and made ground before chipping through the defence towards the line. Barnes ran in their 22 and the opposition forced an error to get the next scrum put-in at the 22. From that Bury went wide then after 2 close recycles made ground to 10 metres out and recycled 3 more times close to get a penalty 5 metres out near the posts after 14 minutes and Hughes kicked for the lead.

After 2 recycles and an offload they were held up in a tackle giving Bury the next scrum 25 metres from their line. They kicked to touch having gone back into their 22 giving the home team a line-out just inside the 22. Another line-out was stolen and Bury made ground with 2 phases then recycled twice more before kicking to the opposition 22. Barnes kicked back to the other half then the visitors ran the ball wide and recycled twice again before kicking through the line. At the next breakdown at their 22 an isolated Barnes' player was penalised for not releasing. Bury kicked for a line-out 10 metres out; after that and close phases they were penalised for not releasing close to the line. Barnes kicked towards touch from their scrum but did not find it; an opposition player tapped the ball, preventing it from going out. This went forward but was not spotted by the officials. The visitors went wide and recycled 4 times advancing to get over the line but were judged held up. The scrum that followed broke up with a problem and Barnes lost a prop for 10 minutes. Another one was chosen and this resulted in a penalty for the attacking side. After the 3rd one Bury recycled 18 times mostly close before in the end going wide for Wiltshire to get his 2nd after the half hour. Another good conversion followed putting the visitors 8 points ahead.

Bury kicked back the restart; Barnes ran the ball back and quickly advanced to the opposition 22. After 3 recycles they were awarded a penalty 13 metres out in centre field. The fullback was asked to kick the points to reduce the deficit, hoping for at least a losing bonus point, and he did.

Barnes ran the restart ball back well before the opposition forced an error to get a scrum just inside their half. They were awarded a penalty at the put-in and kicked for a line-out at the 22. Their forwards kept the ball close recycling twice and advanced before being turned over. Barnes ran the ball out of the 22 putting together 8 phases but not advancing much further before the opposition forced an error to regain possession. Bury advanced with the ball then one pass and one offload sent Wiltshire over wide-out for his hat trick at 41 minutes playing time. An excellent conversion followed.

The visitors dealt with the high restart and Barnes were soon penalised; the ball was put into touch and the whistle went at 49 minutes of the second half.
