Three Valuable Table Points Gained

This time it is Barnes who come from behind to get an important draw

After Barnes' kick-off and a good kick back an error gave the visitors a line-out 15 metres into the other half. From that Cinderford put together a set of 7 mostly close phases before chipping into the 22. Barnes cleared to touch 26 metres out. The visitors kept the ball, again for 7 phases to get the first penalty that was easily kickable and fullback Moffat took the points at 3 minutes.

Barnes kept ball in hand after the restart was kicked back; after 4 recycles they chipped over the defence. Cinderford replied with an up-and-under; Barnes dealt with this and went wide. They then put together 11 varied phases, with their fly-half Williams-Davies testing the defence on more than one occasion, to get a penalty 13 metres from the visitors' line. This was kicked for a line-out 5 metres out. Their pack then set for a drive that was initially forced back but then got going and over with Prop Al Khaldi on the ball at 9 minutes. The conversion hardly took off and did not get close to the posts in front or at the side.

The restart was cleared to touch near Barnes' 10 metre line. From the line-out Cinderford recycled 3 times; the third to centre where a well-timed pass created a powerful breakthrough that with passes got to 5 metres out. After recycling they passed forward 15 metres out. Barnes got a free-kick at this the first scrum; they kicked ahead but not to touch. The visitors ran the ball with 8 very good mixed phases; the first breakthrough was out wide then the move was finished by Moffat breaking through from outside the 22 then converting his try at 14 minutes.

Cinderford's forwards gained yards from the restart then the ball was sent wide for another breakthrough. Barnes lost a forward for 10 minutes and the penalty kick took the visitors to their line-out 19 metres out. The pack drove over from there at 17 minutes with flanker Ryan on the ball, wide out. An excellent conversion from Moffat made it 5 - 17.

Two kicks followed the restart; Cinderford's forwards kept the ball for two phases before being penalised for crossing. The kick took Barnes to the opposition 22 then from the line-out they put together 16 varied phases to send wing Carlisle along the touchline then come in to score at 22 minutes. The conversion missed.

The score stayed the same for rest of the half until the last couple of minutes. During that time neither side had particular advantage until Barnes lost a man for 10 minutes, apparently for dissent. The kick took Cinderford to a line-out at the opposition 22. Their pack started a drive and got another penalty 16 metres out. This got them another line-out 10 metres out and the next drive got them over at the corner with hooker Walker on the ball. The conversion missed leaving them 12 points ahead; this was their last score. The halftime whistle went 2 minutes later after they had attacked again and got into their opponents' 22.

Barnes returned the second half restart to touch 10 metres into the other half then got a free-kick at the line-out. Their forwards ran the ball and recovered from an error after recycling once. It was recycled 5 times more without advance but before their put-in 5 metres back from the line-out and free-kick. From the scrum they soon went wide and after 6 phases got a penalty 18 metres into the half in centre field. This was after 4 minutes and the kick for the points hit a post, not going over, resulting in a 22 drop-out. For the next 15 minutes Barnes had the advantage of territory then at the end of the 3rd quarter Cinderford held out an attack close to their line. After that they broke out helped by Barnes kicking out on the full. At about 25 minutes the players indulged in some activity without the ball and the home team gained a man advantage for 10 minutes. Two more penalties soon followed with another visitor getting a 10 minute rest. Barnes chose a scrum 14 metres out after which O'Toole came into the line to send replacement wing Martey over to come in to the posts for the fullback to add the conversion after the half hour.

Barnes ran from the restart then Cinderford forced an error to get a put-in 8 metres into their opponents' half at which they got a penalty. They kicked for a line-out 28 metres out. From that they put together a sequence of 19 very good phases before the defence forced an error. Barnes got the ball and went wide after a couple of recycles centre Hersey broke the line then 5 more phases took them to 4 metres out. There they were turned over and Cinderford cleared to touch just 10 metres out. From this last line-out Barnes tried to drive; when this was stopped they put together a set of 11 phases to send Martey over for his 2nd wide out. The conversion missed before the whistle.

Dry, a clear sky, a little wind at the start, more and varying later on a softish pitch.
