Do Not Pass Go! (Monopoly™)
A training exercise in defending and tackling.
More kicks followed Barnes' kick-off before a line-out for the visitors at halfway. From that their pack drove 20 metres until the defence forced an error to get the first scrum put-in. Barnes' pack were pushed back in the scrum then penalised 7 metres closer to their line. Chinnor put the ball into touch for the second line-out 5 metres out. Again their pack drove; over the line they were held up. Barnes were penalised at the second scrum, from which fly-half Angell easily went over near the posts at 8 minutes after which he converted.
Kicks after the restart resulted in a line-out for Chinnor just outside their 22. The ball was kept in then this was followed by a scrum for Barnes 3 metres back. At this they were pushed back a bit then penalised. Angell's good kick went into touch just inside the opposition 22. After the line-out they put together 8 mostly close phases before the defence forced an error 30 metres out. At this scrum Chinnor took the ball against the head then recycled twice before being penalised 10 metres out. Barnes kicked to touch to 7 metres inside their half and after their first line-out kicks were exchanged then wing Sager kicked well to touch 12 metres from the visitors' line. Chinnor set up a drive from the line-out but were held; after recycling close once the opposition were penalised. A good kick took the visitors to 26 metres from their opponents' line. An error at line-out gained possession for Barnes; they kicked then another mistake gained them a scrum 8 metres inside their half. Again Chinnor's pack got the ball and put together 8 phases to send wing Lamont over in the corner at the end of the first quarter. The conversion missed.
The visitors cleared the restart to touch at their 10 metre line then stole the line-out. This was soon followed by another line-out for Chinnor 5 metres further forward. From this one they at first kept the ball in a maul then released to centre. They advanced putting together 9 mostly close phases before an offload put a centre through a gap then a pass got a player over the line but for no try. The decision was a 5 metre scrum for the defence. This time they hooked the ball and got it away from the scrum and kicked. Chinnor ran the ball before the defence forced an error to get a put-in 27 metres out. The ball was released to centre but soon after dropped. From the scrum 14 metres into their opponents' half the visitors went blind and advanced to get a penalty 28 metres out. The kick resulted in a line-out 5 metres out; instead of a drive, a forward broke off and the ball was recycled 3 times before Angell chipped laterally towards the corner for centre Beer to score his second easily at 31 minutes. A very good conversion by Angell followed to make it 0 - 19.
The visitors soon kicked back the restart; Barnes recycled the ball once before an error at the next ruck resulted in a scrum for Chinnor 6 metres inside their half. Their pack kept the ball in and made 3 metres but were then penalised. The kick took Barnes to a line-out 17 metres out after which the ball was dropped at inside centre. Advantage was played and Chinnor recycled once then broke away almost to the opposition line. They recycled once wide then an offload was followed by a close then a wide recycle. The defence forced an error to get a scrum put-in 11 metres out. From this they cleared to touch 9 metres inside their half. From the line-out Chinnor went wide before being penalised for crossing. The ball was put into touch for the halftime whistle.
The wind that had not been significant in the first half had increased and would now favour the visitors. Barnes secured the kick-off and kept the ball for 4 phases to get a penalty at their 10 metre line. The kick took them to just outside the other 22. From the line-out they went wide then the backs put themselves under pressure with a loose pass. They recovered and recycled but then lost possession; Chinnor recycled and kicked over the line. Fullback O'Toole ran and passed to Sager who made a good break then Barnes recycled wide again, only for fullback Goss to intercept and go to the posts at 2 minutes. Angell added.
The restart kick went into touch giving the visitors a scrum back. After kicks were exchanged then Angell attempted a drop-goal from this own half. Following the 22 drop-out Chinnor ran the ball and got a penalty 11 metres into the opposition after recycling once. The kick took them to 8 metres out then from the line-out they kept the ball tight and put together 13 mostly close phases but in the end wide for Lamont to score at the corner after 8 minutes. The conversion missed leaving the score at 0 - 31.
Chinnor kicked back the restart long; Barnes ran the ball back and after recycling three times centre Holmes made a good break after which the move broke down with a pass into touch 11 metres into the opposition half. After the line-out Barnes got a scrum 4 metres further back after a ball carrier was held up. They were penalised before the ball was put into the scrum. The kick took Chinnor to just outside the 22; now Barnes stole a line-out and scrumhalf Franklin broke blind to make ground. The ball was recycled twice before an error and the Ref. went back to a previous incident for a Barnes' scrum 14 metres into their opponents' half. Probably their best attack followed with 6 mostly wide phases with Sager and Holmes prominent, but the visitors' defence forced an error to get a scrum 15 metres out. Again Barnes were penalised before the ball was put in; they kick took the opposition to near halfway. From the line-out they released to centre then went wider before passing forward. From the next scrum just inside their half, Barnes recycled twice with no advance to get a penalty that they ran. After recycling once they were intercepted then penalised at the next ruck 18 metres into the opposition half. The kick gained Chinnor 34 metres; after the line-out they recycled 3 times before there was some action without use of the ball then the visitors lost a man for the rest of the game. This was 26 metres from Barnes' line and the kick took them 3 metres short of halfway. The line-out was stolen and Chinnor put together few phases before Barnes hacked on a loose ball. The visitors recovered and recycled a couple of times before the ball went into touch off an opposition player just outside Barnes' 22. Chinnor put together six close phases before being penalised having gained 2 metres. Again Barnes ran the ball and got more ground when the opposition did not retreat. They then went wide but soon dropped the ball still 11 metres inside their half giving their opponents another scrum. Chinnor advanced putting together 7 phases to get a penalty 16 metres out. This got them a line-out 6 metres out. The defence held to get a put-in at the same distance. After the scrum and recycling once the ball was thrown for a kicker to clear but missed and went over the dead ball line giving the opposition the next scrum. From that Chinnor went wide and sent wing Heath over wide out at 35 minutes. The conversion was wide.

The ball was dropped again at halfway after 4 phases. The whistle went after Chinnor were forced into touch after going blind from the last scrum.
