3 forward tries the difference between the sides, 6 in all resulting in 5 important points.

Dorking soon kicked back the kick-off then forced a turnover. A penalty for each team followed. When Barnes got the ball for the second time they put together a very good string of phases before being penalised. From deep in their own half Dorking ran the ball, going wide to set wing Irving racing down the touchline to get the first try of the game at 4 minutes. The conversion was wide.

At 10 minutes there were signs of scrum dominance from Barnes. At 17 minutes from a scrum near halfway, no.8 Crossland broke, fullback O'Toole took the ball on then the ball was recycled twice to send flanker Malaney over towards end of 1st quarter. O'Toole added.

The visitors regained their restart then were turned over after 6 recycles. Barnes kicked long to touch into the opposition 22. Dorking took a quick line-out but an error gave Barnes an attacking scrum in their opponents' 22. The ball was kept in to get a penalty that O'Toole kicked at 23 minutes. Dorking again got the restart ball but immediately knocked on. The opposition got a free-kick at the scrum which they ran. After 3 recycles outside centre Holmes went through the line and sent wing Greenwood on to the line at 26 minutes. The conversion missed.

Barnes cleared the restart to touch just into the other half. From the line-out Dorking released to centre and put wing Marfo into a hole. They recycled twice in the opposition 22 then fullback White had no trouble scoring his team's 2nd try wide out before the half-hour. He converted this well.

Two penalties after the restart set the visitors attacking again with the 2nd taking them to a line-out 19 metres into the other half. The defence held to get a scrum put-in then a clearing kick went out on the full giving Dorking a line-out just outside the 22. They were penalised at the line-out and Barnes kicked to touch still well inside their 22. From the line-out their pack set up a very good driving maul before the ball was kicked into Dorking's 22. Greenwood got to the ball which was then recycled 3 times to get a penalty 5 metres out. They chose a scrum at which they got a free-kick and chose another. The pack drove over with no. 8 Crossland touching down. The conversion was wide before the halftime whistle.

20 - 12 (the 2nd 1/2 will be 17 - 7)

Barnes returned the 2nd half restart with an up-and-under that they regained. After 2 recycles Dorking forced an error but had the scrum ball stolen against the head. Three kicks followed then a Dorking error gave possession back to Barnes. They went wide and replacement centre Cornish got over at the corner after 3 minutes. The conversion missed.

The restart resulted in a scrum for the visitors at the opposition 10 metre line, from which they recycled 3 times before breaking blind for fly-half Pimlow to go over at the corner. The second time that Dorking had scored almost immediately after Barnes had scored. His good kick added what was to be their last points.

Four kicks followed the restart with some recycling, most by the visitors, in between. Dorking then put together 4 more phases that include a line break. Next Barnes forced a turnover and went to the blind side with O'Toole sending Greenwood away to the line at 11 minutes. The conversion missed.

Three kicks followed the restart resulting in a line-out for the visitors 11 metres into the opposition half. They recovered from an error than got a penalty 13 metres inside their half. Their kick didn't find touch then three more kicks followed before a Dorking line-out 14 metres into their opponents half. That was stolen when thrown too long. Barnes went wide to get a penalty 16 metres into the other half and kicked for a line-out at the 22. They then went wide and recycled twice before passing forward. Two kicks followed the scrum resulting in another line-out this time for the visitors on halfway. This was also stolen and was followed by a Barnes' scrum at the same place. From it they soon kicked long to the opposition line for a 22 drop-out. An error next gave Dorking a put-in 16 metres inside their half. The opposition were penalised at that despite going forward. An error taking the penalty resulted in a scrum for their opponents. They then went wide twice to get a penalty at the visitors' 10 metre line. The kick took Barnes to just outside the 22 and from the line-out the pack advanced to 10 metres out where a forward broke off blind. They soon got a penalty 5 metres out and a man advantage for 10 minutes. They chose to have a line-out but an error gave the defence a scrum put-in there. This was wheeled and Crossland got the loose ball to touch down at 26 minutes. O'Toole added for the final score.

Barnes secured the restart before an error gave possession back to the visitors. They recycled twice, chipped and regained then kicked to the opposition 22. Barnes ran the ball before launching an up-and-under; they were penalised after Dorking dealt with that. The visitors ran the penalty until the defence forced an error to get a put-in 16 metres inside their half. Dorking got a free kick at that and ran the ball; they put together 5 good phases, advancing strongly and recovering from an error until the ball was dropped. Greenwood got the ball and raced off then was overhauled after 40 metres. At the opposition 22 Barnes were penalised and Dorking again ran this until a defender forced an error at halfway.

Barnes kept the ball in the scrum to get a penalty and kicked for a line-out 17 metres from the visitors' line. Dorking got another free-kick at that and quickly ran the ball breaking through into the other half before the defence forced another error. Barnes kicked for territory; the visitors ran the ball wide to an opposition scrum, still 12 metres inside their half. This time Barnes were penalised at the scrum; again Dorking ran it and got another penalty 16 metres ahead which they ran. This resulted in another Barnes' scrum just outside their 22. No offence this time; they tried an up-and-under that fly-half Coles leapt for and got, just like I had seen wing Flynn Sager do earlier in the second team game. Barnes advance to be forced into touch 7 metres into the other half. Dorking put together 3 phases from their line-out before the opposition forced an error to get the last scrum put-in not far from halfway. The visitors forced a turnover just before the whistle.

Dry, overcast, a little variable wind, the pitch firm.
