A good season for Barnes - against the others in the top 6 they won one game and lost the other. Against the top two they won away in the first half of the season. As well as their 7 losses Barnes struggled to win against 2 of the teams that were eventually relegated.
Dorking won more games than Bishop’s Stortford but Stortford won the league because of more 4-try bonus points. The top 2 were clear of the rest with only 3 losses out of 26; once against Barnes and once against each other. Stortford's other loss was at home to Westcombe Park in the first game after new year; they never lost to anyone below 4th in the league. Dorking's other loss was away at relegation-threatened Tring in the 2nd last game of the season.
After these, Westcombe Park and Barnes had 7 losses each with Park coming third as a result of more losing bonus points; Barnes had 40% more points scored against them than Park. Against the others of the top 6, Barnes won 1 and lost 1. Westcombe lost 4 of their first 5 games then were very good apart from a blip, rather like Barnes at Tring, when they lost at home to, now relegated, Westcliff. Close behind were Tonbridge Juddian then a big points gap to Old Elthamians who won 4 more than they lost then come those who lost more than they won, led by CS Rugby 1863, who had very little squad depth. Barnes lost once each to two of the four surviving teams teams: Guernsey, Hertford, Tring and Thurrock; the last two were only one win away from relegation. We said goodbye for the time being to Gravesend and Westcliff and hope that Staines can soon rebuild.
