The best way to keep up to date with Barnes Rugby Football Club

Bob Blair - the new WiIliam Shakespeare?

4 days ago By Michael Whitfield

Just in time for Mother's Day this Sunday, Barnes Rugby legend Bob Blair is having his first book published - amazing scenes!

“If Bob can write like he talks this is going to be a better seller than Harry Potter!” Michael Whitfield

Despite being at least 90, Barnes legend Bob Blair has written a cracking book called “Madge Lambert, Some Sunny Day”.

It is a wonderful story about a young girl who served on the front line in the Burma Campaign in WW2.

The book is being published this week, by Pan McMillan, on Thursday 8th March, an ideal Mother’s Day gift for this Sunday.

Bob has been a stalwart of Barnes Rugby Club since 1966, when he first played for the “Harrodians”, as the team was called then, now the site of the Harrodian School in Lonsdale Road in Barnes. He last played for Barnes on one of my first tours to Buenos Aries in 1993, when he was my roommate. I can tell you that was a very scary experience for a 35 year old prop!

Seriously though Bob is a cracking human being, a regular supporter of the club at 1st team games and lunches, so go on Amazon (or any other good online bookseller) and buy his book right now, he will love you long time if you do!

Where next?

Barnes won 33-19 at home to Westcombe Park last weekend whilst the 2's thumped London Scottish 0-73 at their place! After a long lay-off due to the weather, Barnes were back in the saddle at the weekend, and the 1's and 2's returned to winning ways.
