Greg Watson penned these words after last Sunday's Minis B Festival at Ealing Rugby CLub....
On a sunnyish afternoon at Ealing Trailfinders the Barnes U9 team once again triumphed in the Ealing B Festival. Kicking off first against Hammersmith and Fulham the side adopted its usual slow start and battled through to a 1 - 0 win. Next up were London Irish who were defeated 6 -0with some lovely flowing passing rugby. The final team in the league stages were Ealing Tigers who again were defeated 6 - 0 to some great competitive rugby.
That set up a repeat of last year, a final against London Welsh. Last year it ended in a draw but this year the Barnes team dominated and played some running rugby coupled with a strong defence. In the first half the ball was passed down the line to big Ben MacNamara who took off, rounded the defence and ran all the way down the pitch to score. 1 - 0 at half time, the second half saw us camped in the London Welsh half and there were a number of narrow misses for tries. A strong defence ensured that London Welsh could not break out. This was epitomised by the double tackle from Joe Jones and Connor Glanville that cut the opposition player in half. Pressure defence told and Ned Watson pounced on a stray pass to touch down for try 2. A collective lack of concentration at the restart allowed London Welsh to run in a try. However, it was a bit of a consolation try as the Barnes Boys stayed camped within 20m of the try line to play out the last 2 minutes. Victory 2 - 1 and some great rugby by the boys during a very enjoyable afternoon.
Some great rugby played today and another trophy to add to the collection.
Cheers
Greg
