The best way to keep up to date with Barnes Rugby Football Club
1 year ago
A stolen line-out 6 minutes from the end denied Barnes a draw away against the top team
Barnes ending the season better than they started it
but against a team that has gone through a long bad patch since the end of January
5 of Old E's tries came from breaking through / being put through a hole in the opposition 3/4 line (4 in the 1st 1/2) ...
- a scrum just before halftime and Cinderford’s response to Barnes’ 1st try in the 2nd 1/2. In addition the home team often demonstrated an advantage at breakdowns.
- Bury won by 5 penalties to 1; in the 1st 1/2 they conceded 1 penalty, Barnes were penalised 5 times. In the 2nd 1/2 the visitors were awarded 5 penalties, Barnes 3.
This time, despite playing 85% of the game with only 14 men and leading until the 78th minute, a penalty sank them.
Barnes' backs unable to make up the difference
(the other contender was at Taunton) with Chinnor scoring in the last minute of an extended 2nd 1/2.
(this was not a defeat by a steamroller pack; Redruth had 3 wing tries and made other good breakthroughs)
away at London Irish in the autumn
Continued improvement from Barnes
following previous improvement
not even a table bonus point for another week.
Since the end of October Canterbury are a different team, winning everything
Reminders of when Elthamians' Renford Bennet used to blast through us a few seasons ago. This time another wing, Dom Lespierre scored 4 tries against us, less bluntly than Bennett used to.
This time it is Barnes who come from behind to get an important draw
Uncertain control of the clock may also have had something to do with it. The winners were certainly overjoyed at the whistle.
The visitors very happy with the result having long fought without a sent-off player.
but only just
wears down Barnes in the 2nd half.
we've ever competed against, full of players who've played in higher leagues.
Things Just Clicked
While Barnes are blunt.
- but no losing one
Very good kicking from hand put the home team into strong attacking positions
Barnes, with little possession, struggled to attack but defended strongly to get a losing bonus point.
