Two Mudlarks!

Hello and welcome to the Ladies section of the Barnes RFU website!

Barnes Ladies are looking forward to another successful season in South East West 2 league in 2009/2010. Having been in the team since almost the very beginning (give or take a month), I’m also personally looking forward to setting foot on the pitch for my sixth season with the team and my first as captain. We’re up against some familiar faces since this is our third year in this league and are also looking forward to meeting the new teams who have joined the league this season.

The team continues to work with our ever dedicated coaches, Ben and Jerry (not the ice cream men!), training every Tuesday from 7:30-9:00pm at Barn Elms (directions available on the site). We are also fortunate to be able to call on the experience of the men’s coaching team for some of our sessions. I’ll admit that I’m biased, but I think others would agree that the Barnes Ladies squad is a really great group of ladies who love their rugby, have a great laugh playing rugby together and are really passionate about playing for a great club.

As always, we are looking for new players so if you are a lady and are keen to either continue your rugby career or take up rugby with a social and friendly squad then you’ve come to the right place. As well as enjoying our rugby, we also enjoy a good night out and as such we have a fairly full social calendar which includes ladies only and club events. In recent socials we’ve learnt to do the Thriller dance (not a pretty sight) and headed off to Twickenham to watch some serious Sevens rugby with a few pints of cold beer and there is plenty more to come this year! At the end of every season we also go on tour, in the last five years we have been to France in the Barnes Olympics, Spain as Superhereos, Jersey as the Mr Men and Little Misses and Dorset as Cowboys and Indians...only our tour sec Abi who knows what this year holds!

Hopefully we’ll see some of you down at training or if not then down on the sidelines cheering on the men’s first XV team who are striving for success in the first season in a very competitive league – good luck guys!
