The boys reflect on beating Richmond 25-24 on 17th Dec 2011

Spence looks forward to the 2nd half of the 2011/2012 season....

At the half way mark Barnes 2nd Team find themselves 3rd in Division 2 of the Canterbury Shield.  Our form has been good in the run up to Christmas, but 2012 will see Barnes taking on some strong sides including Chinnor, Hertford and London Irish Amateur – who have all beat us this season.  Furthermore, Barnes will be playing Esher and Bracknell for the first time in the league this season.  With this in mind there is plenty to work on.

The first half of the season was gruelling and the result of it, is that Barnes now has a long list of injured players.  We are hoping to see the likes of skipper Chris Brown, Joel Burgess, Nick Taylor, Dave Butler, James Clarke, James Wood, Chris Dunlop, Alex Preece, Craig Hawthorne and Tim Williams, who should all return before the end of the season – which should make selection very challenging!

Welcome to the 2nd XV home page!

"The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth

Welcome to the 2011/2012 Season at Barnes!

After the success of the 10/11 season, as a club we are looking forward to the challenge of again competing in the National 2 (South) league. Having been promoted and then demoted in quick succession two season ago, we are well aware of the requirements of performing at this level, and how strenuous the long season can be on all members of the senior squad.

Last year the Super 2's had a mixed bag of performances and results, as can be common with a second team as the demands of the first team mean frequent changes of personnel. That being said, it was pleasing to see a core group of players form in the second team which created a consistency that had possibly been lacking in previous seasons. This season we are looking to build on the progress of last and improve our application and peformances and we hope and expect the results to follow.

As always, the management of the Super 2's is a team effort, this year we welcome former 2s captain Paul Spencer on board as coach, he will be supported by Kimbo Slice, aka Julius To'o who will be teaching the backs how to perfect the closed fist Samoan fend. The 'brains trust' will be smoothly rounded off with the inclusion of Sean Gibson who will provide a stabilising Father figure to the team as vice captain, and may very possibly be the actual father of a number of the younger lads, DNA tests pending.

We are again competing in The Shield Division 2 and can expect some tough encounters against skilled opposition who we look forward to welcoming down to Barn Elms.
