BRFC Second XV - Captain: Will Hemsley
5th April
34-33 win against a bunch of Staines 1st teamers. Paul "Iceman"Farmer fulfilled his boyhood dreams by kicking a conversion 4 minutes into injury time to win it by a point for the Super 2's.
Unfortunately, the game was not without incident as young James Barnard sustained a badly broken thumb which will rule him out of the remaining two games and Tom Archer was stepped late on by a second row who went over for what many thought might be the match winning try!
29th March
The super 2's picked up a good win away against Guildford's 2nd XV.
Barnes were met by not only terrible conditions with the wind and the rain lashing across the pitch but also a home side who played with a never say die attitude. However, the super 2's showed real class in this fixture and played with flair in abundance, the forwards and backs interlinked well and broke the gain line all afternoon. The telling difference was the power of the Barnes pack coupled with hard running from a midfield paring who complemented each other well.
Great to see the trio of Farmer, Owen and Codo back out on the paddock and it would be great to see them as regular fixtures in the run in to the end of the season.
Final score 56-15.
23rd Feb 2008
We lost 39 - 42 to Worthing. Almost a great comeback (they were 42 -15 up with 16 mins to go) but it was left too late.
As a positive Barnes outscored the visitors 7 tries to 6 but only converted 2 in comparison to the visitors 6. Notable mentions go to the front 5 who dominated at the set piece and worked tirelessly all day with Chris Phillips stepping up well, No. 8 Mal Pape carried superbly from the base, Warren Gower was back to form, causing all kinds of problems for the Worthing defence and Dave Isaia who added a real spark when entering the fray at the half.
